About Us
Sailaboat Ltd was formed by Tim Hore, Penny King and Nigel Palmer in 2009 to develop training videos that provide online sailing training for new or inexperienced dinghy sailors. Our vision was to produce high quality video filmed in such a way that people could learn the different sailing skills and by enabling each clip to be streamed to a computer they would be accessible anywhere in the world with a suitable connection. A key objective was that the videos should add value to beginners attending a sailing school. The theory could be learnt before attending sailing school which would then enable the beginner to focus on the practical side whilst at sailing school. Apart from helping beginners before attending sailing school, the videos would also provide a valuable refresher for skills that may have been forgotten whilst at sailing school.
Tim Hore has been sailing dinghies for over 35 years and regularly sails competitively with his local sailing club. He is a qualified RYA Senior Dinghy Instructor and has been running Level 1 and 2 courses for beginners at their sailing school since 2002 and also runs Start to Race courses for the more proficient sailor.
By trade, Tim is a professional film maker. Apart from Sailaboat, he is also a co-owner of Tympani Productions and has over 30 years experience in the television industry and is the driving force behind the technical and artistic capabilities of all video productions at Tympani. He began his career at the BBC, later working with the Ministry of Defence and has worked on all styles of programming from TV dramas to live events to corporate productions and award winning training programmes.
His combined knowledge of the TV and film making industry, running beginner courses at sailing school and experience and love of sailing makes him the ideal producer for sailing training videos.
Nigel Palmer provides the Marketing and
Training support for Sailaboat. He has over 20 years experience working in these
areas for Xerox, a global organisation. For 5 years he headed up their Training
Operation across Europe where he was responsible for introducing technology to drive
innovative training solutions. This included the transition of traditional training
courses to self learning programmes, many of them using video material – an experience
that added value to the making of Sailaboat videos.
Penny King is the project manager for Sailaboat and co-ordinates all aspects of the website, including scheduling, planning, filming
and budgeting to ensure the site runs smoothly. Penny is also a co-owner of Tympani
Productions and runs the business side of the operation ensuring that projects are
managed efficiently, deadlines are met and productions are on budget. She began
her career at the BBC and trained as a journalist. She has a broad experience that
comes from 25 years working in many areas of the media industry including radio
journalism, technical sound operations and TV facilities management.
